Company Overview
Greenergy was founded as a bedroom start-up in 1992 to supply fuels and energy with a reduced environmental impact. We have grown rapidly year on year, repeatedly ranking amongst the 100 fastest growing privately owned companies in the UK.
We are now the UK's largest independent oil company. We have over a 10% share of the UK road fuel market, supply approximately a third of all biofuel sold in the UK and are establishing a position as a supplier of biomass for power generation.
Greenergy is owned primarily by the Directors, with minority shareholdings by Barclays Capital and Tesco in the parent company Greenergy International and by Cargill in subsidiary Greenergy Biofuels.
| UK fuel sales
We sold 4 billion litres of fuel in the UK during the year ending March 07 and current sales average about 100 million litres of fuel every week. All the road fuels we sell in the UK are blended with biofuel.
Our products include;
- main grade petrol, diesel, gasoil and kerosene;
- high percentage biodiesel blends to cut greenhouse gas emissions; and
- performance fuels including Tesco 99 Octane and motorsport fuels.
Our customers include the major oil companies and supermarkets (diesel and petrol for retail sale), bus and logistics companies and train operators (fleet use) and motorsport competitors. |

Leader in biofuels
Greenergy is a leading player in the biofuel industry, with activities spanning from feedstock sourcing through manufacturing and blending to supply of bespoke biofuel blends.
We operate world class biodiesel processing facilities at Immingham on the East coast of England. The plant is now in full production, with its second phase doubling capacity to 200,000 tonnes which came on stream in May 2008. We also conduct significant biodiesel blending operations in the port of Rotterdam. Bioethanol is included as standard in all the petrol we produce.
We have led the oil industry in calculating the carbon benefit of our biofuel, first by creating the first carbon-certified® biodiesel blend in Greenergy GlobalDiesel and now by declaring the carbon content of all the fuel we sell. |
