Building a national infrastructure to manufacture, store and supply fuel

intro-base

We have made significant investments in new fuel manufacturing and storage infrastructure at a number of terminals across the UK. These investments have created supply chain efficiencies and are supporting our ongoing sales growth.

With the addition of Teesside, Plymouth and Cardiff to the Greenergy network, we have now completed our expansion into target British coastal locations. We are now looking to:

  • Establish a position at further inland locations, completing a comprehensive UK tankage and distribution network to meet the needs of our growing customer base.
  • Develop rail links between terminals allowing us to move fuel in a cost and environmentally efficient manner.
Thames

Thames - investing for growth, quality control and customer service

As an area of high population density and significant fuel demand, the Thames estuary is an important strategic location for Greenergy. We have made very significant investments at Vopak, West Thurrock over the past five years in order to:

  • Expand the sale of fuel manufacturing and storage facilities available to us;
  • Improve quality control procedures by creating a fully independent and ISO 9001 accredited supply chain;
  • Improve customer’s efficiency by minimising gate to gate loading times.

In 2008 we invested in the construction of new tankage at the West Thurrock terminal, increasing by 25% our storage and blending capacity at the terminal. We also funded modifications required to dedicate some loading racks to Greenergy customers only.

In April 2010 a further phase of investment was completed. This has ensured the full segregation of Greenergy product from that of other terminal users and has further increased the number of loading bays reserved for our customers, significantly cutting waiting times for our customers using the terminal.

Teeside

Teesside - a second fuel manufacturing facility

In 2010 we completed a major investment to create an advanced fuel manufacturing and storage facility at the Vopak terminal at Seal Sands in Teesside.

Our Teesside facility opened in May 2010, providing us with a distribution base in the region for the first time and allowing us to enhance our services to customers in one of the largest urban conurbations in the UK.

Our investment has created:

  • A brand new, state-of-the-art facility for petrol, diesel and biofuel blending and storage reserved for our own use;
  • A second location to manufacture fuel, complementing our other facility at Vopak Thames; and
  • New, high speed loading racks for sole use by Greenergy customers.

We are currently adding rail import/export connections to link the terminal with other parts of our network.

Cardiff

Cardiff – new fuel storage and distribution facilities

New fuel tankage and distribution facilities have now been completed in Cardiff.

The Cardiff terminal was developed in a long-term partnership between Greenergy and Inver Energy, an established tank storage operator. The project involved the construction of new tankage as well as refurbishment of existing tanks. New rail loading facilities were also constructed at the site and we are now moving fuel between Cardiff and other terminals by rail rather than road or ship.

Our Cardiff terminal began commercial operation in January 2012.

Plymouth

Plymouth – a strong supply base in the South West

We own and operate fuel storage facilities at Cattedown and Mayflower in Plymouth.

After acquiring the terminals in June 2008, we carried out major renovations and refurbishments to make this the first major post-Buncefield terminal new-build in the UK. The terminals opened on schedule in October 2009.

The works have doubled the capacity of the terminals and have given us a strong supply position in the South West region.

Immingham

Immingham – our biodiesel production plant

We own and operate a biodiesel production facility in the port of Immingham on the east coast of England.  We are making ongoing investments at the plant in order to process used cooking oils and animal fats (tallow) even more efficiently.

Used cooking oil and tallow are more difficult to process than virgin oils, requiring more complex processing than virgin oils such as rape or soy. The plant is also capable of using virgin vegetable oils.

Our biodiesel plant is located at Immingham West Terminal with sea, rail and road access as well as pipeline links to local petroleum oil refineries. Its sea-fed location enables effective logistics and trading with the UK and European biodiesel markets as well as the wider world feedstock markets.
